Practicum & Internship Opportunities at Richer Life Counseling
Develop as a Clinician — and Learn How to Build a Thriving Private Practice
Are you a graduate-level counseling student searching for a practicum or internship site that goes beyond the basics, a place where you’ll not only grow as a therapist but also learn how to build a successful private practice? At Richer Life Counseling, under the supervision of Dr. Tyler Rich, LMFT, Ph.D., we offer a limited number of practicum and internship opportunities designed for students who want to learn what it really takes to thrive as a clinician and as a business owner.
Each year, Dr. Rich accepts 3 to 4 graduate-level students working toward their master’s degree to become a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) or Clinical Professional Counselor (CPC). Unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate psychology or social work students at this time. If you’re ready to gain direct clinical hours in a private practice environment, while also learning the ins and outs of marketing, business development, and practice management, this site may be the perfect fit for you.
Why Choose Richer Life Counseling for Your Internship Program?
Most practicum sites will teach you how to see clients, take notes, and handle clinical basics. But few will show you what it’s actually like to run a private practice or how to create one that reflects your values, interests, and lifestyle.
At Richer Life Counseling, you’ll receive training that is both clinically rigorous and entrepreneurially focused. You’ll develop as a therapist and learn what it takes to build and sustain a private-pay therapy practice.
Here’s what makes this site different:

- Hands-on Clinical Training: Work directly with clients in a supportive, structured, and professional private practice setting.
- Business & Marketing Mentorship: Learn how to attract clients, define your niche, and develop a marketing plan that reflects your authentic therapeutic voice.
- Personalized Supervision: Receive weekly one-on-one and group supervision grounded in warmth, transparency, and professional growth.
- Ethical, Trauma-Informed Guidance: Learn how to practice with integrity and cultural humility, with a strong foundation in ethical and legal standards.
- Focus on Long-Term Career Success: Gain the skills to eventually launch and grow your own private practice — not just complete your required hours.
If you don’t yet know your niche or ideal population, don’t worry, that’s part of the journey. Through guided reflection and supervision, you’ll learn how to identify the types of clients and therapeutic work that feel most meaningful to you.
What Supervisees Are Looking For and What You’ll Find Here
Choosing the right clinical supervisor is one of the most important decisions in your early professional life. Supervision is not simply about fulfilling academic requirements; it’s about developing your clinical identity and discovering your authentic voice as a therapist.
Many supervisees seek more than oversight. They want mentorship, psychological safety, and genuine connection. A great supervisor provides a space where:
- You can ask hard questions without fear of judgment.
- Vulnerability is welcomed and respected.
- Mistakes are viewed as opportunities for growth, not failure.
Dr. Rich creates a supervisory environment rooted in authenticity, curiosity, and compassion. You’ll be encouraged to explore not just what you do in session, but who you are as a therapist.
Supervision under Dr. Rich will help you:
- Sharpen your clinical judgment and decision-making.
- Understand your emotional responses in session (countertransference).
- Integrate theory with practical, real-world application.
- Build confidence and clarity in your professional identity.
The result? You’ll feel grounded, inspired, and equipped to provide therapy that is not only effective but deeply human.
Finding the Right Fit for Your Growth
Supervision works best when there’s mutual trust and respect. At Richer Life Counseling, the supervision relationship is collaborative; you are an active participant in your own professional development. You’ll receive structured feedback and ongoing support while being encouraged to take creative and ethical risks in your clinical work. This is a space where growth happens naturally through reflection, experimentation, and compassionate feedback.
Through supervision, you’ll learn how to:
- Connect theory to real-life client interactions.
- Address cultural and ethical issues with confidence and sensitivity.
- Strengthen your self-awareness and therapeutic presence.
The goal is not perfection, it’s progress, competence, and authenticity.
Graduate Student Interns
If you are completing a practicum or internship as part of your graduate program, this is an opportunity to experience real-world counseling in a private practice setting. You’ll work with diverse clients while receiving consistent support as you integrate classroom learning into live clinical work.

You can expect supervision that focuses on:
- Developing core counseling and diagnostic skills.
- Understanding case conceptualization and treatment planning.
- Exploring ethical issues and professional standards.
- Building confidence with your first clients.
- Finding your therapeutic voice and identity.
All within a compassionate and growth-oriented environment designed to help you thrive as both a clinician and a professional.
About Dr. Tyler Rich
I’m Dr. Tyler Rich, LMFT (NV License #2609), a Clinical Sexologist, AASECT-Certified Sex Therapist, and Certified Sex Addiction Therapist (CSAT). I am also an AAMFT-Approved Supervisor, offering clinical supervision to Nevada MFT and CPC interns.

His supervision is available both in-person and virtually, making it accessible and flexible for students across Nevada. His approach integrates evidence-based practices, depth psychology, and trauma-informed care, helping you develop a balanced, holistic understanding of the therapeutic process.

Supervision with me is not about checking boxes; it’s about building confidence, honing intuition, and learning to trust yourself as a therapist.
My Supervision Philosophy and Approach
I believe the best therapists are those who have done and continue to do their own inner work. Supervision is an extension of that process. My goal is to help you “know thyself, trust thyself, and use thyself” in the therapy room. Together, we’ll explore the self-of-the-therapist, discuss interventions, and reflect on the deeper meanings behind your clinical experiences.
You can expect supervision to include:
- Case Conceptualization & Analysis: We’ll discuss the “why” behind interventions and the clinical choices you make.
- Countertransference Work: You’ll gain insight into your emotional responses and how to use them constructively.
- Ethical and Cultural Awareness: You’ll strengthen your ability to navigate ethical dilemmas and cultural complexities.
- Clinical Growth & Reflection: Each session is an opportunity to deepen both your competence and compassion.
Supervision is dynamic, reflective, and always grounded in safety, honesty, and growth.
What You Can Expect from Supervision
